FrontM and BVB Launch Breakthrough Crew Welfare Initiative for Seafarers at Sea

London, 31st March 2026 – For years, the maritime industry has spoken about crew welfare as a priority. Yet for many of the world’s 1.9 million seafarers working on commercial ships, long rotations, isolation and limited onboard recreation continue to place pressure on morale and mental wellbeing.

FrontM is changing that.

In a breakthrough initiative for crew wellbeing and life at sea, FrontM has partnered with Borussia Dortmund (BVB) to bring football-led entertainment and shared onboard experiences to commercial vessels worldwide through its maritime digital platform.

Delivered via FrontM’s Loft Multiplex maritime IPTV technology, the partnership will enable seafarers onboard ships to access curated Borussia Dortmund video-on-demand programming, including club features, behind-the-scenes formats and seasonal content. The programming is designed for communal viewing in ship recreation rooms, creating moments of connection and shared enjoyment for crews during long voyages.

Turning Crew Welfare from Talk into Action

Beyond video content, the collaboration will introduce football-inspired interactive activities and short training-style clinics, bringing elements of the club’s globally recognised football culture to life onboard.

The initiative also explores opportunities for complementary Borussia Dortmund matchday experiences for seafarers on shore leave in Europe, extending the connection from ship to shore.

Across global shipping fleets, supporting seafarer wellbeing is increasingly recognised as essential for crew retention, safety and operational performance. However, practical solutions that improve everyday life onboard vessels have historically been limited.

FrontM’s platform approach is designed to address this gap

By combining maritime-ready onboard technology with meaningful entertainment and engagement experiences, ship operators can deliver tangible improvements to crew life at sea without requiring complex new infrastructure.

Punit Oza, Chief Commercial Officer at FrontM, added:

“For too long, the maritime industry has spoken about crew welfare without having scalable ways to deliver it onboard. What crews often need are simple, meaningful moments that lift morale and create a sense of normal life at sea. By combining BVB’s global fan appeal with FrontM’s onboard platform technology, we are turning crew welfare from discussion into action.”

A New Era for Life at Sea

Seafarers remain the backbone of global trade, yet their daily lives often remain invisible to the wider world. Initiatives like this partnership demonstrate how technology and culture can combine to improve crew engagement, mental wellbeing and quality of life onboard ships.

As shipping companies increasingly focus on crew retention, safety culture and seafarer welfare, solutions that create meaningful onboard experiences are becoming an important part of modern fleet operations.

Shipowners and managers interested in enhancing crew wellbeing and onboard engagement across their fleets are invited to connect with FrontM.
